    1. What is EWRB?

    EWRB stands for Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking. It’s a mandatory regulation in Ontario requiring eligible buildings to report energy and water usage annually.

    2. Is EWRB reporting mandatory?

     Yes. If your building is 50,000 sq. ft. or larger, you must comply with Ontario Regulation 506/18 by submitting a report through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

    3. What is the deadline for EWRB submission?

    July 1st of each year. The data reported covers the previous calendar year (e.g., 2024 data is due July 1, 2025).

    4. What happens if I don’t comply with EWRB regulations?

    You may face fines, be publicly listed as non-compliant, and risk losing access to government energy incentives or programs.

    5. What type of buildings must report?

     Commercial, multi-residential, and institutional buildings that are 50,000 sq. ft. or larger must comply.

    6. What utility data do I need to submit?

     12 months of electricity, natural gas, and water data, along with building size, occupancy, and property use details.

    7. What is an EWRB ID, and how do I get one?

     It’s a unique number issued by the Ministry of Energy. We can help you request it if you don’t have one yet.

    8. Can you file the EWRB report on my behalf?

    Yes! Our team handles everything: utility data collection, Portfolio Manager setup, and full report submission.

    9. Do I need ENERGY STAR Certification to comply with EWRB?

     No. Certification is optional. If eligible, your ENERGY STAR score will be included in the public disclosure.

    10. Is my building’s data made public?

     Yes. Summary data and ENERGY STAR scores are published on Ontario’s EWRB public portal.

    12. How much does EWRB filing cost?
